Mimosa acantholoba (Willd.) Poir. var eurycarpa (B.L.Rob.)
Barneby (synonym: Mimosa eurycarpa ), hereafter referred to simply
as M. acantholoba for simplicity, is a Fabaceae (Mimosoid)
taxonomically complex species, represented by several varieties that
occur from Western Mexico to northern Perú (Barneby 1991). Theeurycarpa variety is endemic to the coastal region of western
Mexico. In coastal Oaxaca State, this taxon is a multi-stemmed tree
reaching more than 7 m in height and up to 20 cm in diameter at breast
height (DBH). The species is deciduous and the trees shed their foliage
at the end of the rainy season (November–December), while fruit
production spreads from July to the late November (Maldonado, 2014).
