Hyperinsulinemia/euglycemia therapy (HIET) for the management of severe
amlodipine toxicosis in a cat
Abstract
Calcium channel blocker overdose is encountered in human and veterinary
medicine. At toxic levels these medications alter glucose metabolism,
vascular tone, and cardiac function. Hyperinsulinemia/euglycemia therapy
is a cardioprotective treatment used in human medicine, but rarely
documented in veterinary medicine. This is the first report of HIET in a
cat.
