The preparation of hydrogen by photocatalytic principle is an important subject in the future energy direction. This article intends to design the catalytic structure of a crystalline (amorphous) TiO2/two-dimensional MoS2 sandwich structure supporting a single-atom, and explore the effect of this special structure on the photocatalytic reaction.Calculating the effective mass, electrostatic potential, light absorption spectrum and other related properties by DFT method, the analysis shows that the sandwich structure catalyst has good carrier transfer ability and electron-hole separation ability. Except for the Pt@Amorphousr-TiO2/MoS2 sandwich structure single-atom catalyst, which only has an excellent effect on the oxygen evolution of water, the rest of the interlayer catalysts have the two characteristics of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution.The new catalyst designed in this paper has innovative design ideas and high-efficiency research and development value.

Assessment of DFT methods through analysis of the Renner-Teller Effect (RTE) in the X2Π state of the NCO radical was completed. Our results suggest that the amount of exact exchange at long range is important for an accurate description of the RTE in NCO. DFT functionals from the B3LYP, PBE, TPSS, M06, and M11 families with standard Correlation Consistent, 6-311G split valence family, as well as Sadlej, and Sapporo polarized triple-ζ basis sets were assessed. Our Renner coefficients are compared with previously published theoretical and experimental results to characterize the overall accuracy of various functional/basis set combinations in determining the RTE splitting in the Π (bending) modes of NCO(X2Π). We suggest that this method of analysis can be extended to other systems, serve as an accuracy metric when selecting a functional, and provide a means to create training sets for machine learning in computational molecular physics applications.

The initial configuration of Yttrium oxide clusters (Y2O3)n(n=1-15) was creatively constructed by combining artificial bee colony algorithm with density functional theory. The structures of large and medium-sized yttrium oxide clusters with molecular number greater than 10 were established for the first time, and many new structures that are different from existing research have been obtained. The average binding energy, second-order difference energy, HOMO-LUMO gap, density of states and other properties of the clusters were analyzed. The thermodynamic properties and behavior of nano yttrium oxide clusters at different temperatures and sizes were discussed. Studies have shown that for small-sized clusters, the atomic stacking structure is cage-like, while for medium-sized and large-sized clusters, the composite trapezoidal structure and ellipsoid-like structure are more stable. The nanoclusters tend to be stable as a whole, and the relative stability of the cluster structure is higher when n = 2,4,7,9. The effect of yttrium oxygen atomic orbital on bonding is analyzed. The heat capacity (Cp), enthalpy change (H) and entropy (S) of (Y2O3)n (n=1-15) clusters increase with the increase of temperature (T), and the vibration free energy (Gv) decreases with the increase of T. The stability of the clusters changes in the temperature range of 300K-500K.

The cis-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene (DR-2 or HFO-1336mzz(Z)) is a novel environmentally friendly working fluid with appropriate physicochemical characteristics. The present work firstly investigates decomposition mechanism and thermal stability of DR-2 under the atmosphere containing oxygen (O2) and high temperature experimentally. The oxidative degradation features of DR-2 were explored at the temperature of 473-1073 K and the products were monitored by GC-MS and IC. The experimental and ReaxFF-based molecular dynamics results demonstrated the promotion effects of O2 on the DR-2 decomposition. The participation of O2 molecules was supposed to lower the initial thermal decomposition temperature by 240 K approximately and also would increase the number of products such as hydrogen fluoride (HF), but the enhancement effect was weakened by the increasing reaction temperature. The reasonable Arrhenius parameters calculated from the first-order kinetic analyses-based reactive molecular dynamics (RMD) simulations. Combined with density functional theory, the pathways of initial oxidation decomposition product firstly observed in the experimental and RMD simulations were proposed in this study. These results may pave the way for further study of DR-2 as a working fluid with lower global warming potential.

Conjugated open ended cones in which the configured pentagons are consistent, lies in the circle of Fries Kekule structure [8]. This non-adjacent tightest configuration of pentagons as shown in the Fig. 1 is consistent with a Fries Kekule structure and thus provides the most stable cone. In the study, various topological indices of the same structure in regard of physico-concoction resources and bioactivity of substance mixtures are studied which further helps to study the behavior of chemical compounds. In this regard, Zagreb indices M_1^* (G) and M_2^* (G) of a molecular graph G are used to evaluate the complexity in chemical systems and biological organisms. In this manuscript, we consider two complex families of stable carbon nanocones and compute their ECI, TEI and eccentricity-based Zagreb indices.

R\’enyi complexity ratio of two density functions is introduced for three and multidimensional quantum systems. Localization property of several density functions are defined and five theorems about near continuous property of R\’enyi complexity ratio are proved by Lebesgue measure. Some properties of R\’enyi complexity ratio are demonstrated and investigated for different quantum systems. Exact analytical forms of R\’enyi entropy, R\’enyi complexity ratio, statistical complexities based on R\’enyi entropy for integral order have been presented for solutions of pseudoharmonic and a family of isospectral potentials. Some properties of R\’enyi complexity ratio are verified for six diatomic molecules (CO, NO, N$_2$, CH, H$_2$, and ScH) and for other quantum systems.

Within this study, four thermal ring-opening reactions, Reactions (1-4), were selected in order to investigate the phenomenon of torquoselectivity as well as predicting non-competitive or competitive reactions in QTAIM and stress tensor frameworks rather than using conventional methods. The theoretical analysis for these reactions exhibits differently for non-competitive and competitive reactions as well as for the conrotatory preferences either TSOC or TSIC directions by presenting degeneracy or non-degeneracy in their results. The concordant results of stress tensor and QTAIM scalar and vectors with experimental results provide a better understanding of all reactions mechanism. Examination the (rb), ε, H(rb), ℙσ, 3, BPL, and H indicate that Reaction 1 is a competitive and Reactions (2-4) are non-competitive reactions with TSOC, TSOC, and TSIC preference directions respectively.

Organometallic sandwich complexes have been attracting tremendous interest for their potential applications in electronics and spintronics. Here, we systematically studied the structures, electronic and magnetic properties of one dimensional (1D) transition metal (TM)-anthracene (Ant) sandwich molecular wires (SMWs), [TM2Ant]∞ and [TM3Ant]∞ (TM=Ti, V, Cr, Mn), based on density functional theory calculations. Our results showed that all the 1D SMWs display normal sandwich configurations with their binding energies closely related to the choice of TM atoms. Excepting 1D [Mn2Ant]∞ and [Fe3Ant]∞ favoring antiferromagnetic ordering, most 1D [TM2Ant]∞ and [TM3Ant]∞ SMWs display robust ferromagnetic feathers. Particularly, 1D [Cr3Ant]∞ SMW is revealed to be ferromagnetic half-metal with large magnetic moment of 28.0µB per unit cell. Further spintransport calculations double proved that 1D [Cr3Ant]∞ SMW are good spintransport molecular devices. Our findings shed light on the properties of 1D Ant based SMWs and propose a new way to design potential electronic and spintronic devices.

Defect and doping are effective methods to modulate the physical and chemical properties of materials. In this report, we investigated the structural stability, electronic properties and quantum capacitance (Cdiff) of Zr2CO2 by changing the dopants of Si, Ge, Sn, N, B, S and F in the substitutional site. The doping of F, N, and S atoms makes the system undergo the semiconductor-to-conductor transition, while the doping of Si, Ge, and Sn maintains the semiconductor characteristics. The Cdiff of the doped systems are further explored. The B-doped system can be used as cathode materials, while the systems doped by S, F, N, Sn atoms are promising anode materials of asymmetric supercapacitors, especially for the S-doped system. The improved Cdiff mainly originates from Fermi-level shifts and Fermi-Dirac distribution by the introduction of the dopant. The effect of temperature on Cdiff is further explored. The result indicates that the maximum Cdiff of the studied systems gradually decreases with the increasing temperature. Our investigation can provide useful theoretical basis for designing and developing the ideal electrode materials for supercapacitors.

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were adopted in this work to investigate the ability of the B12N12 fullerene like nano-cage for sensing juglone (Jug) and one of its derivative (Jug-OH) using DFT based methods in gas phase, pentyl ethanoate (PE) and water. Results showed that B12N12 is able to adsorbed Jug preferentially by binding to one of the O-atom of its carbonyl groups. Based on NBO analysis, a charge transfer from the oxygen atoms of Jug and Jug-OH to the anti-bonding orbital of B was revealed. QTAIM analysis showed that the B12N12-Jug and B12N12-Jug-OH complexes are stabilized by a partially covalent B-O bond in addition to attractive non covalent interactions. The ability of Jug, Jug-OH as well as their complexes A and A-OH to scavenge radicals has been investigated via the usual hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) mechanism in the three media of study previously stated. Theoretical results revealed that in PE and water, the complexes are better antioxidant than Jug and Jug-OH. These results provide fundamental knowledge for the development of new antioxidant delivery careers.

The urgent desire for Halon substitution propels the exploration of potential alternatives, because of the severe damage of Halons to the stratospheric ozone layer. In this paper, the thermal decomposition mechanism, as well as fire-extinguishing mechanism and performance of Trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) were studied by density functional theory (DFT) calculation and experimental measurements, to analyze the practicability of this proposed Halon substitute. The thermal decomposition products of CF3I can react with active OH· and H· radicals to achieve the purpose of rapidly fire-extinguishing. Besides, through DFT calculation and reaction kinetics analysis, the fire-extinguishing radicals CF3· and I· are more easily generated during the interaction between CF3I and flame, which indicates the chemical- extinguishing mechanism and pronounced fire-extinguishing performance of CF3I. To explore its actual fire-extinguishing effect, the fire-extinguishing concentration (FEC) of CF3I was measured in cup burner. The FEC value of this proposed Halon substitute is 3.42vol% for extinguishment of methane-air flame, which is smaller than those of three HFCs and HFO-1336mzz(Z) and is comparable to that of Halon 1301. These findings suggest the promising applicability of CF3I in practical Halon replacement and the necessity of further evaluation.

The Jacobi polynomials $\hat{P}_n^{(\alpha,\beta)}(x)$ conform the canonical family of hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials (HOPs) with the two-parameter weight function $(1-x)^\alpha (1+x)^\beta, \alpha,\beta>-1,$ on the interval $[-1,+1]$. The spreading of its associated probability density (i.e., the Rakhmanov density) over the orthogonality support has been quantified, beyond the dispersion measures (moments around the origin, variance), by the algebraic $\mathfrak{L}_{q}$-norms (Shannon and R\’enyi entropies) and the monotonic complexity-like measures of Cram\’er-Rao, Fisher-Shannon and LMC (L\’opez-Ruiz, Mancini and Calbet) types. These quantities, however, have been often determined in an analytically highbrow, non-handy way; specially when the degree or the parameters $(\alpha,\beta)$ are large. In this work, we determine in a simple, compact form the leading term of the entropic and complexity-like properties of the Jacobi polynomials in the two extreme situations: ($n\rightarrow \infty$; fixed $\alpha,\beta$) and ($\alpha\rightarrow \infty$; fixed $n,\beta$). These two asymptotics are relevant \textit{per se} and because they control the physical entropy and complexity measures of the high energy (Rydberg) and high dimensional (pseudoclassical) states of many exactly, conditional exactly and quasi-exactly solvable quantum-mechanical potentials which model numerous atomic and molecular systems.

Population analyses have become an indispensable tool to computational chemists. Yet implementation within popular quantum chemistry software has buried the interesting philosophical choices made when partitioning the electron density into atomic contributions. There is further historical context that has significantly influenced common conceptions of chemical bonding and reactivity. This work reviews select aspects of orbital and spatial decomposition schemes of the density matrix, pointing out essential linear algebraic considerations and associated tools of shared interest to us and Prof. Mayer.

Recently, the rovibronic absorption and emission spectra of diatomic molecules dressed by medium-intensity laser fields have been discussed. By computing the total absorption probability as a function of dressing wavelength an asymmetric line shape has been obtained strongly resembling to the well-known Fano line shape. Applying two-state analytical and three-state numerical models the shape of the total absorption probability function is explained. Further confirmation of the model based results is provided by high resolution accurate numerical computations using large number of basis functions.

In this paper, in order to study the relationship between structure and performance, four new NFA derivatives were designed based on the two reported NFA molecules BO-4Cl and BTP-S2 by replacing the BT unit with a less-electron deficient BTz unit and inserting another ethylene double bond between the central core and the terminal groups. The DFT and TD--DFT calculations were applied to invstigate linear and nonlinear optical properties, such as electronic structure, electronic absorption, reorganization energy and the second-order NLO properties. The investigation demonstrates that they are all narrow bandgap derivatives, the absorption spectrum extends to the near-infrared region and using two ethylene double bond is the most effective way to reduce the energy gap, redshift the maximum absorption peak and the middle absorption band, enhance hole transport ability and weaken electron transport ability and enhance second-order NLO response. Considering the smaller electron and hole reorganization energy and the larger static first hyperpolarizability value, the studied NFA derivatives have great potential to become ambipolar charge transport materials and large second-order NLO materials.

1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethene (FOX-7) is a novel energetic material with high performance and low sensitivity. In order to deeply understand the reaction mechanism in the initiation “hot spots” of FOX-7 and reveal the growth mechanism of these initiation “hot spots” in the explosion process, the detailed mechanisms of bimolecular reaction of NO2 and FOX-7, as well as the subsequent reactions have been investigated by the quantum chemical calculations. The mechanism of NO2 and FOX-7 bimolecular reaction and the catalytic effect of NO2 were revealed by three key dissociation paths. It is demonstrated that the NO2 molecule plays an important role in promoting the decomposition of the FOX-7 molecule, and the main exothermic pathways were the reactions between oxidizing intermediates (NO, NO2), and reducing intermediates (CO, NH3).

The installation of quantum chemistry software packages is commonly done manually and can be a time-consuming and complicated process. An update of the underlying Linux system requires a reinstallation in many cases and can quietly break software installed on the system. In this paper, we present an approach that allows for an easy installation of quantum chemistry software packages, which is also independent of operating system updates. The use of the Nix package manager allows building software in a reproducible manner, which allows for a reconstruction of the software for later reproduction of scientific results. The build recipes that are provided can be readily used by anyone to avoid complex installation procedures.
