A case of a toxic megacolon and acute appendicitis in HIV/ AIDS.
Abstract
A 33-year-old African man with HIV/AIDS presented with an acute abdomen
associated with rectal bleeding. Colonic decompression, appendicectomy
and post operative antiviral therapy for a diagnosed CMV colitis/
megacolon and appendicitis complicating AIDS was effective and avoided
the morbidity and high mortality from an emergency subtotal colectomy
and ileostomy.
