Valere Huypens was born in 1944 in Zoutleeuw, Belgium and is fully retired. He developed CNC software and hardware together with Prof. Dr.-Ing Gerard Duelen, TU Berlin. The CNC controller used a PDP-8 without floating point hardware and made all the geometrical calculations (intersections, offsetting, pocketing and cut distribution) in real time with 4-connected lines and circles.
In 1983, he was the only laureate in the field of Computer Science and Robotics, under the auspices of the Flemish Community; he was awarded by nine Belgian banks and the price was handed out personally by King Boudewijn of Belgium. He realized and commercialized an intelligent milling CAD-CAM system. He has a Master of Engineering and a degree in electronics from KUL, Leuven and a master’s degree in Automation and Control.
