The rapid increase in urban population increases the need of expanding more places for commercial and residential purpose to meet the demand requirement of the growing population. One such construction practice is the construction of high-rise structures in urban areas for offices, commercial hub etc. While designing these high rise buildings certain preventive measures need to be adopted in order to resists the high velocity wind forces and seismic vibration. Nowadays, there are several techniques available to control vibration of structure like adding of bracings, base isolators, dampers etc. to the high rise structure. Recent trends in the construction industry shows that using of Tuned Mass Dampers as a vibration control device in a structure reduces the dynamic response of that structure. TMD is a passive energy dissipating devices that consists of a mass, spring and dashpot system that are attached to a structure in which it tuned to the same frequency as that of the structure. Tuned mass dampers (TMD) have shown to be one of the displacement control strategies most useful throughout time. TMD is used to keep oscillations within acceptable bounds. In this paper, response spectrum analysis is carried out for a building with and without TMD on bare frame and RC frame with masonry infill walls. The study focuses on comparing the behavior of these building under static and dynamic loadings. It was found out that the storey displacement, storey drift and base shear were reduced when TMD is used. Also, from all the models RC frame with masonry infill wall and TMD are most effective in controlling vibration.
