Abstract
Kathiawari horses are known for their hardiness, endurance and agility.
They were highly prized for their strength, agility, and ability to
endure harsh conditions in battle. Over the years, Kathiawari horses
have also been used for various purposes, including transportation,
agriculture, and cultural events. In the present study eighteen working
Kathiawari horses age ranging from 2 years to 12 years, consisting of 10
stallions and 8 mares were selected for this study. Horses were
subjected to exercise for a period of about 45mins. Whole blood and
Serum samples were collected 1 hour before and 5 mins after exercise for
evaluation of changes in haematobiochemical values. Highly significant
increase in PCV, Hb, RBC, MPV, WBC and lymphocytes were seen after
exercise. Glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, total protein, albumin,
AST, ALP, BUN, creatinine, LDH, sodium, phosphorus and potassium were
significantly elevated after exercise. Calcium, magnesium and chloride
were significantly decreased after exercise when compared to before
exercise. This study contributes to establishing the changes in
haematobiochemical values in Kathiawari horses before and after
exercise.
