Lab Head
In 1998 graduated in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques, with the thesis title: "Effect of OGP10-14 on normal megakaryocytopoiesis, final evaluation 110/110 with honors. From September 1999 he joined the research staff directed by Professor Mario Petrini, head of Hematology division at University of Pisa.
From 1999 to 2003 he was active in setting up molecular diagnostic assays in oncohematology and immunophenotyping of hematological diseases; responsible of flow cytometry and cell sorting facility. His research activity concerned normal and pathological hematopoiesis.
From 2004 his studies were focused on bone marrow-derived non-hematological stem cells; regarding clinical use of MSCs.
In 2007 he participated actively on isolation and characterization of a novel progenitor of the mesenchymal lineage, discovered in adult human bone marrow.
He is currently working in collaboration with the New York Medical College (Valhalla, NY–USA), the Marshall University (Huntington, WV-USA), the Kansai Medical University in Moriguchi (Osaka, Japan) and Peking Union Medical College (Peking, China)
