Head of Library Search and Usability has primary responsibility for developing an overall strategic framework for visibility of UCLA Library resources in the search engines, the UCLA Library website, and via transactional interactions between Library systems and external systems. The incumbent serves as UCLA’s best practices expert with regard to Search Engine Optimization (SEO), including site structure considerations; content- and link-building strategies; the impact of personalization of search results; metadata and microformats; and development and maintenance of an SEO style guide. The incumbent advises systems developers on user interface design and specific SEO strategies based on best practices and research findings. The incumbent works with university faculty and staff to develop specific web search strategies designed to promote UCLA-produced research, and educates Library web site owners and schools on search strategy. The incumbent analyzes and translates data from analytics tools, usability studies and needs assessments into actionable SEO plans and search interface optimization plans in order to achieve and measure search campaign success.
