First degree in mathematics and physics, PhD (1986) in Glaciology and Oceanography. Worked for NATO in Italy on acoustic propagation, then Ambient Noise Imaging at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, then 12 years at National University of Singapore. A second stint working for NATO, where I led the team that established the JANUS underwater communications standard, and then on to NTNU in Trondheim.
