In this letter, a new dissipative energy flow (DEF) method is derived for source detection of oscillations associated with inverter-based resources (IBRs). The conventional DEF method encounters difficulty in correctly locating the oscillation source in an IBR-penetrated system simulated in electromagnetic transient (EMT) environment. By examining the fundamental assumption, we derived a new DEF suitable for IBRs acting as current sources. The detection results show the IBR oscillations’ origins can be correctly located using the proposed DEF.
