The main objective of this research is to propose a phenomenological LTI model for a VSD as a final control element. This model, as part of the mass flow control loop, allows assessment of the control strategy design and the control performance for a feeder mass flow control, kind ore-conveyor belt in a mining process. Thus VSD model would allow the completion of the total block diagram of the conveyor belt process, and thus allow through simulation the evaluation of applied control strategies. The structure of this paper is as follows: In section II, the proposed model is presented, which gives the mathematical support for the models and also tests and assesses the model’s results and performance, through the performance index evaluation. The following section III covers the modeling of the conveyor belt with actual data of the equipment information in the laboratory of the University. Section IV deals with the control strategies designed, which are two: one is the traditional PID control, and the other is robust control ADRC. The control simulation results and evaluation of their results are obtained and shown in their graphs in section V. Finally, general conclusions are delivered.
